Cookholic

On Friday, I went to lunch with 3 colleagues.  After contemplating for 10 minutes, we decided to have roast pork for lunch.  As before, both JY and I decided to share the set lunch which costs SGD16 for 2 people.

The others wanted to have ala carte dish instead, so one of them ordered Wonton Noodles and the other ordered Roast Duck with Roast Pork Rice.

Lunch was lovely and we had a great time catching up with each other.

Honeymoon Dessert

After doing some window shopping in Bugis Junction, trying to digest our heavy dinner, we decide to have some dessert at Honeymoon Dessert Cafe, located on the ground floor of Bugis Junction.

After pouring through the menu, I decided to have Durian with vanilla ice cream for my dessert.  J decided to have Beancurd whilst H decided on Sweet Potato with Ginger Soup.

I enjoyed my dish, it's been two months since I last had durian. :)

Birthday Celebration

Had a nice dinner at Xin Yuan Ji Restaurant at Tan Quee Lan Street with J and H.   We were celebrating an early Birthday dinner for H.  Arriving at Bugis after 6pm, we decide to walk over to the Restaurant to get a seat.  Luckily for us, the crowd has not converged to the restaurant yet.  There are still a few empty tables.

Pouring through the menu and after much discussion, we decide to have a bowl of sliced fish soup each, a plate of  Hot-plate Toufu and Prawn Paste Chicken.

The sliced fish soup is tasty but there were only a few slices of fish in it - about 6 pieces.

A drink called "MAMA" which is a combination of Lime and Plum.  Very nice.

Dessert at Mirana

J and I were contemplating to have a slice of cake for dessert, for some days now.  In the end, we had decided to drop by Mirana Cake Shop to have our cakes & coffee today.

As usual, the coffee aren't to our liking. Despite requesting them for less milk, the coffee still tastes like milk tea!

Anyway, we love the Hazelnut Cake. The Expresso Mousse has a wee overdose of cream - that's why they called it 'mousse' !!

Korean meal

Had lunch with a colleague last Friday and we had a nice meal. Service was great and the place is quite popular.

Food was great and we enjoyed our meal.

Year of the Dragon Figurines

Was at the temple last weekend and I bought 4 single-dragon zodiac figurines for myself and my friends.  I have been buying them for several years, starting with the year of the Pig, Rat, Ox, Rabbit.  I didn't buy the Tiger as it was rather expensive.

Single dragon figurine.

On day 1 of the Lunar New Year, my family & I visited the Temple for prayers.  There, the helpers of the temple were selling the double dragons figurine (below).   These 2 figurines were for my Mom. Each figurine has a lucky 4 numbers.

I wonder if any one has won 4D from these numbers yet ? :)

Birthday of the Jade Emperor

On the 9th day of the Lunar New Year, the Hokkiens celebrate the Birthday of the Jade Emperor.  It is the most important festival during the 15 days of the Lunar New Year.
Celebration will start on the 9th day of the Chinese lunar calendar (ie. after midnight of the 8th day).  It is widely celebrated by the Buddhist and the Taoists Chinese.

The offerings on the altar
The most important offering for the Hokkien community is the sugar cane. The pair of sugarcane plants, one is placed on each side of the offering table symbolises unity, cooperation and strength.
